Trentham Neighbourhood Centre

Description

This Introduction to Beekeeping course is a beginners guide to keeping healthy bees. There's a lot to know when you're getting started so we'll look at beekeeping tools and safety, how and why to use a bee smoker, how to open and inspect your hive, how and when to make your hive bigger or smaller, common health issues, beekeeping regulations, how and when to harvest honey and how to prevent swarms. The focus will be on Langstroth hives... the most common hive and also the one used with Flowhive. And yep, we'll be opening and inspecting a beehive together... bee suits provided but please wear boots (weather dependent). The cost of this class has been kept low thanks to generous sponsorship from the Hepburn Shire Council Community Grant Program.
