About the Event
Living in Trentham we are so fortunate to be surrounded by such wonderful food! So RAR Trentham wants to support people seeking asylum for who many are unable to afford to buy even the most basic food items. They are running a Food Drive during the month of March and will donate all the goodies to ASRC (www.asrc.org.au).
Many people seeking asylum are in living with trauma and uncertainty, trapped in a political situation that is out of their control. For these people, the ASRC Foodbank represents much more than a source of food; it provides a sense of dignity and empowerment. Your donated food allows families to prepare familiar meals from their homelands, providing them with a sense of normalcy and connection. Check out the RAR Trentham Facebook page which has the list of the food and hygiene products most urgently needed, or you can grab a list from TNH.
The ASRC has seen a growing number of families accessing the Foodbank as the impact of the COVID pandemic is felt. Demand for food trebled over the course of 2020, with around 1500 individuals relying on ASRC weekly as their primary source of food. Over 80% of people have no source of income due to their visa status.
Every donation helps, no matter how small! Bring it into TNH and pop it in the boxes provided. For any other info please contact Sophie from RAR Trentham on ph. 0405 187 726.
